Award Criteria

TCTA scholarships may be awarded in amounts up to $5,000 per year for tuition and required fees. The amount awarded is determined on a case-by-case basis. Discounts or tuition waivers and other financial assistance received will also be considered.

TCTA scholarships must be used to assist students pursuing courses of study leading to recognized degrees at accredited two- or four-year colleges, community colleges or career/technical schools.

Scholarships may be renewed annually for up to four years based on satisfaction of criteria and available funding, though renewal is not assured. To be eligible for renewal consideration, recipients must maintain good academic and disciplinary standings, earn a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and complete at least 12 academic units per semester or equivalent for a grade.

Applicant Criteria

To apply or be nominated, a student must:

  • be a high school senior
  • be a U.S. citizen and Texas resident
  • demonstrate financial need (at or below twice the federal poverty level)
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • demonstrate the traits of strong personal character and potential for success, as determined by the nominating educator

Preference is given to students who are the first in their families to seek higher education and whose family incomes do not exceed twice the poverty level, as determined by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

Nominator Criteria

Students must be nominated by a high school-level teacher or counselor, who must complete a nomination form. Nominators’ or nominees’ parents’ membership in TCTA is neither an advantage nor a disqualifier. However, teachers/counselors may not nominate their own children.

Application/Nomination Deadline

Due to a change in the estate's management, only renewal applications will be accepted in 2019.
