Barrick, a 2012 graduate of Rouse High School in Leander ISD, is using her $2,500 TCTA scholarship to study pre-communication disorders at the University of Texas at Austin. She is pursuing both bachelor’s and master’s degrees to prepare for a career as a speech pathologist. Her TCTA scholarship was renewed for the second time for 2014-15.

"Being awarded the Texas Classroom Teachers Association Scholarship this past year has helped me tremendously," she wrote in her renewal application. "This scholarship has put me on a path to graduate in four years as I pursue my dream of becoming a speech pathologist."

“[Andrea] comes from a family that places a strong emphasis on education,” wrote Kim Adcock, the Rouse High School transition coordinator who nominated Barrick for her original scholarship.

“Her mother has been a teacher for 25 years and is a wonderful role model to students. Andrea has been raised with valuing education. … I have no doubt that Andrea will always be someone who gives back to her school family and community regardless of the field of study she pursues.”
