Brandon Castillo, a 2016 graduate of Richards High School, plans to use his scholarship to attend Panola College to gain skills that will help the first-generation American own a business one day.

“Sometimes it is difficult to describe to someone else what my plans are because I fear it will sound far-fetched,” he said of the entertainment company he’d like to start someday. “I hope it includes film production, creation of games, visual effects, computers and technology as it relates to the industry. I am determined to make it.”

Nominated by art and science teacher Joelle Dulaney, Castillo would be the first in his family to attend college. “Brandon is hardworking, honest, creative, moral and genuine,” she said. “He comes from dire and extreme poverty with serious challenges that have not dissuaded him from his dreams.”

His scholarship was renewed for 2017-18.
